Ports America is a leading independent stevedore operating in 24 ports and terminals along the U.S. East and Gulf Coast handling over 100 million tons of cargo annually and has been operating as WTS's breakbulk stevedore since 2006. Ports America has brought both experience and expertise to our breakbulk operation, state of the art equipment and technology including their Dockworks inventory system allowing real time status of cargo activity with the port.
$3.5 million dollar capital improvements
Recent capital improvements at the port have been completed improving the overall facility for our entire customer base creating a more efficient and productive facility. These improvements include:
- Paving over 20 acres in both the open lay-down storage area and on 3500 linear feet of pier space.
- Reconditioning the 130,000 square foot Ace Warehouse including a new roof.
- Replacing 1700 linear feet of rail line along out pier face.
We will always continue to work to maintain the port as New England's premier deep water multimodal facility for internationaland domestic trade.
Renewable Energy at the Port of Providence
June '07 - a feasibility study is currently being conducted to determine if the port is a suitable location for a wind turbine to supplement their current power requirements. Study results are expected by the end of summer.
